Hot weather was supposed to have hit the area over the weekend. A week-long, record-breaking Texas heat wave hit the Dallas- Fort Worth area Thursday with a 113-degree blast. The hot spell has burned rangelands, and the Dallas-Fort'' Worth area high ways have been littered with stalled, overheated cars. President Valery Giscard d'Estaing disclosed Thursday that France has tested a neutron bomb. Many families will be on vacation this week and next week. On Friday the Fabulous 4th celebration will take place in Columbus and on Saturday it will be Coon Dog Day in Saluda. The Landrum Friends of the Library meet tonight at 7:30 at the library. The 2nd annual 4th of July Family Picnic will be at Garrison Chapel Baptist Church on Markham Road beginning at 12 noon. C. 28782 Precious Stones At Kiwanis Tuesday The Tryon Kiwanis Club will meet Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. Lloyd Sain will be the speaker and will have some of his lapidary items on exhibit. Mr. Sin, who works with precious stones has a workshop in which he makes rings, broaches, cuff links, etc. as a hobby. Russell Constance is in charge of the program. Garbage Pick-Up On Friday, Not Sat. Tryon Town Hall will be closed Friday, July 4th for Indepen dence Day Holiday. There will be Gabage Collection on Friday, July 4th. There will be no Garbage Collection on Saturday, July Sth. Garbage Collection will resume regular schedule on Monday. July 7th. State President Speaks Here While Mr. and Mrs. Keith Butson were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Rhodes recently, Mrs. Butson, President of The Garden Club of North Carolina, Inc., was a special guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Magnolia Garden Club, which was held at the home of Mrs. Philip Voso. Mrs. Butson, who is a landscape critic, gave a talk on the subject, at the request of Mrs. Robert Arledge, president of Magnolia Garden Club. Price 10c Per Copy Dr. Earl Brendall Is Landrum Speaker The Landrum Ministrial Assn, has announced that its annual Community Service will be held on Wednesday, July 2at 7:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Landrum. This year the service is titled. “America for Christ” Community Service — celebrat ing 204 years of Independence. The members of all local churches are invited. Rev. C. W Farrar will preside. The speakei is Dr. Earl H. Brendall who is presently the Chaplain at Carolina Village, Inc. in Hendersonville. A native of North Carolina, he makes his home in Tryon. Dr. Brendall has a B D. and M. D. degree from Duke University and his Th.D from Zion Theological Seminary in Kentucky. He is the author of several books and periodicals He served pastorates in N.
